Brisbane River Jet Ski Guide: Best Views, Food Stops & Adventure Routes

Think you've seen everything there is to say about Brisbane? Sorry to break it to you, but you've been doing it all wrong so far. Seeing Brisbane from a jetski on the river with a throttle in hand opens a whole new perspective. This is how it was meant to be seen!

Let us walk you through an epic journey that combines the thrill of jet skiing with some of Brisbane's best waterfront spots. From serene western suburbs to the heart of the city (and some incredible food stops along the way), this is Brisbane like you've never seen it before.

Kicking Things Off

Your adventure starts at Fig Tree Pocket boat ramp, tucked away in Brisbane's leafy west. This stretch is perfect for finding your groove - smooth water, minimal boat traffic, and no CityCats to work around. Once you're comfortable, you can open up to 80km/h and cruise past some of Brisbane's most impressive riverfront mansions. Not a bad way to start things off, right?

The City Comes Calling

As you make your way downstream, you'll hit your first major landmark, the Walter Taylor Bridge in Indooropilly which is one of the few bridges in Australia designed to be habitable (do a few loops to soak it in and burn a some extra calories to make sure you’ll never need to winched out like a previous resident!). Then keen heading downstream to reach the Eleanor Schonell Bridge near UQ. This is where things start getting interesting. The leafy vibes of St Lucia and Toowong create an amazing backdrop as the city skyline starts to peek through plus you might also get your first CityCat to overtake.

Round the bend past West End and boom - the whole city opens up in front of you. The new Star Casino, city skyscrapers and South Bank create this incredible urban landscape that just keeps getting better as you go. All the city buildings get an amazing glow in the later afternoon.

City Centre Magic

This is where it all happens. The Eagle Street Pier section is pure gold for photos - massive skyscrapers reflecting off the water, the Story Bridge standing proud. Speaking of the Bridge, cruise under it and you'll spot the Howard Smith Wharves crowd at Felons, usually giving a friendly wave to passing jet skis. It's Brisbane's outdoor lifestyle at its finest.

The Good Stuff: River Hub Stops

Here's where this adventure gets really special. Brisbane's River Access Network hooks you up with some perfect spots to take a break and refuel - both yourself and your jet ski.

New Farm Powerhouse Hub Pull up to the New Farm river hub and you're right at the doorstep of the iconic Brisbane Powerhouse, where Mary Mae's Bar & Kitchen is waiting with one of the best riverside views in town. Their sun-drenched terrace is the perfect spot to catch your breath while keeping an eye on your ski below.

The menu here is exactly what you want after an epic morning on the water. Their crispy-skinned barramundi with cauliflower purée ($32) is legendary, and they've always got fresh seafood options that'll hit the spot. The vibe is super casual - no need to change out of your riding gear.

Murrarie BrewDog Stop Further downstream, the Murrarie river hub leads you straight to BrewDog's DogTap Brisbane, and trust us - this place is worth the ride. We're talking 28 craft beer taps pouring fresh brews made right there on site. Their riverside patio serves up stunning views of both the Brisbane River and Gateway Bridge, and on weekends it's buzzing with fellow adventurers soaking up the atmosphere.

The food menu is perfect for hungry riders - their wings are world-famous for a reason, and they've got everything from woodfired pizzas to gourmet burgers and tacos. Plenty of options whether you're plant-based or all about the meat. Their share platters are perfect if you're riding with mates, loaded with local seafood and charcuterie.

Quick Tips for Your Food Stops:

  • Grab a terrace table at Mary Mae's - best river views in the house

  • Weekend rides? Book ahead for both spots if you can

  • Both places are chill with ride wear - no need to pack fancy clothes

  • Normal drink driving rules apply - so don’t attempt to try all 28 taps at Brewdog!

Timing Your Return

Here's a pro tip: time your return journey for sunset. The city transforms as the Story Bridge lights up, and that golden hour glow on the river makes for some incredible photo ops. Plus, the water usually calms down later in the day, making for a smooth ride home.

Before You Head Out

A few quick things to keep in mind:

  • Late arvo departures give you the best of both worlds - daytime views and sunset magic

  • Allow about 4 hours if you want to properly enjoy the stops

  • Always check the weather and tides before heading out

This river run shows off the best of Brisbane - high-speed thrills, incredible views, and some of the best food and drink spots in town.
